| Brief Biography | Professor of Laboratory Medicine, and Biopharmaceutical Sciences
at the University of California, San Francisco.
Background. Graduated from Albert Einstein College
of Medicine in 1964, then spent two years at Columbia Presbyterian Medical
Center as an intern and first year resident in Internal Medicine.
Research associate at the NIH (NIMH and Division of Computer Research and
Technology) until 1969, then completed medical residency at Stanford
University. Joined the faculty at UCSF after two years of Clinical
Pharmacology fellowship there.
Activites. Active in ASCPT, having served as its
president in 1990-1991 and is an emeritus member of AFCR and ASCI. Author
on ca. 200 articles and book chapters, is on the editorial board of Clinical
Pharmacology and Therapeutics, is an Editor of the Journal of
Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics, is a former member of the Anti-virals
Advisory Committee of the FDA, has served on numerous ad hoc NIH
study sections, and consults and/or serves on scientific advisory boards
to several pharmaceutical firms and the FDA.
Honors. Therapeutic Frontiers Lecture Award of the American
College of Clinical Pharmacy (1987); the Rawls-Palmer lectureship award
of the ASCPT (1989); the John G Wagner Lectureship
Award in Pharmaceutics from the U. Mich Col of Pharmacy
(1994); PhD (honoris causa) from the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of
Uppsala (1995); the Leon Goldberg Lecturer in Clinical Pharmacology
from the U Chicago (1995); and MERIT award designation for
a NIH Grant of which he is principle investigator (1996); Distinguished
Alumnus, AECOM (1997); Sidney Riegelman Lecturer. UCSF (2000);
Frequently Cited Author (Pharmacology), Institute for Scientific
Information (2002); Oscar B. Hunter award of the ASCPT (2004). |
